AACE 2019 Announces Dr. Shlomo Melmed as Featured Speaker
Dean of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Will Present on the Treatment of Cushing’s Disease
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (March 29, 2019) – The American Association of Endocrinologists (AACE), a professional community of physicians specializing in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism, is pleased to announce that Shlomo Melmed, MB, ChB, FRCP, MACP, will be a featured plenary speaker at AACE 2019, its 28th Annual Scientific & Clinical Congress in Los Angeles.
Taking place April 24-28, 2019, AACE 2019 will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center & JW Marriott and will feature expert speakers, networking events, and trade show exhibitions.
Dr. Melmed, Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dean of the Medical Faculty, and Professor of Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, will give a presentation at the conference titled, “From Zebrafish to Humans: Translating Discoveries for the Treatment of Cushing’s Disease.” Dr. Melmed will speak about developments in treating the rare condition caused by the pituitary gland creating an excess of the hormone ACTH.
Leading research and education programs at Cedars-Sinai, Dr. Melmed has been a faculty member for nearly 40 years and is actively involved in recruiting faculty leadership and establishing new academic programs. He is an international authority on pituitary medicine, pioneering the discovery and application of new treatments for endocrine tumors. His laboratory has consistently been awarded competitive grants from the National Institutes of Health since 1980, and he has trained leading physicians, scientists, and graduate students specializing in academic endocrinology.
Dr. Melmed is widely published, authoring more than 350 peer-reviewed articles, co-authoring Harrison's Textbook pituitary section, co-editing Williams Textbook of Endocrinology, and acting as editor-in-chief of The Pituitary. His honors include Cedars-Sinai’s Pioneer in Medicine Award and the Pituitary Society Lifetime Achievement Award.
