A STUDY OF ASSOCIATION BETWEEN C-REACTIVE PROTEIN AND GLYCEMIC CONTROL IN ADULTS WITH DIABETES MELLITUS

Monday, Apr 8
1:00 AM – 2:00 AM

Objective : Aim and Objective - of the present study was to evaluate the relationship between HbA1c and hsCRP i.e. to evaluate relationship between chronic inflammation and diabetes mellitus or glycemic levels

Methods : A total of 100 diabetic patients who were on treatment with OHA and/ insulin , were included in this study.HbA1c and hsCRP were evaluated. Data was tabulated and analyzed using appropriate tests

Results : - In our study patients are divided in 4 groups on the basis of their glycemic control (HBA1c) In our study, hsCRP  increases with the increase in HBA1c . Study showed a significant increase of hsCRP in subjects with type 2 diabetes with poor glycemic control ( HBA1C less than 6.5 mean hscrp is 2.17, HBA1C more than 9 mean 3.88, p9,60.86%. Overall, 54% of participants had elevated CRP.

Discussion : Diabetes Mellitus is a complex disease characterized by chronic hyperglycemia with various long term complications. Cardiovascular diseases are common complication of diabetes mellitus. Chronic inflammation and Inflammatory marker has been suggested to be involved in the pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease. Inflammatory marker like hsCRP is one of the most recent entity in modern practice of medicine. hsCRP is considered as indicators of chronic inflammation and is well known for it’s predictive value in cardiovascular diseases

Conclusion :

chronic inflammatory marker like hsCRP is increased in diabetic patients and is also influenced by glycemic control . Diabetes mellitus is a multisystem proinflammatory state with increased cardiovascular risk of mortality and morbidity
