Anthony Heaney, MD, PhD, FRCP

Dr. Heaney is a Professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and holds the Burnett Family Endowed Chair in Neuroendocrinology. He graduated in Medicine in 1987 from Queen’s University of Belfast, Northern Ireland, and later earned his PhD degree from there also. He interned at the Mater Infirmorum Hospital in Belfast, followed by medical residency at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast. On completion of a Research Fellowship at RVH, he was appointed honorary lecturer in diabetes and endocrinology at the University of Manchester and is a Fellow of The Royal College of Physicians. As a Fulbright Scholar, he undertook further translational laboratory research in the pathogenesis of pituitary tumors and exploiting novel molecular targets to develop innovative treatments for pituitary tumors and other NETs at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles and then moved to UCLA Medical Center in 2005. He has authored articles for many peer-reviewed publications including Nature Medicine, Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, The Journal of Clinical Investigation, Cancer Research, Journal of Clinical Endocrinolog & Metabolism, and Pituitary. Dr. Heaney has composed book chapters for Bailliere’s Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, Oxford Textbook of Endocrinology, and Endocrine Updates. He is former President of the International Pituitary Society, Associate Editor for The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism and has served on committees for the Endocrine Society, the Pituitary Society, and the European Society of Endocrinology. He has been voted US News & World report Best Doctor since 2009 and is affiliated with Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center.
