Savitha Subramanian, MD

Dr. Savitha Subramanian is an associate professor of medicine at the University of Washington. She completed an endocrinology fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis and subsequently did a research fellowship at the University of Washington in Seattle WA. She is board certified in Endocrinology and Metabolism.
Dr. Subramanian’s clinical interests lie in lipidology, management of complex diabetes and general endocrinology. She has special expertise in managing individuals with partial lipodystrophy and genetic lipid disorders. Her research has focused on studying the molecular mechanisms driving inflammation in obese adipose tissue, liver and atherosclerosis. She is currently spearheading diabetes population health for UW Medicine and involved in development of standardization pathways for outpatient diabetes management for primary care. She has done extensive work as part of a collaborative care model for diabetes working with primary care physicians in the greater Seattle area.
Locally, Dr. Subramanian is involved in many teaching activities for trainees and clinicians. She is the co-chair of the popular Diabetes Update for Primary Care CME and chair of the Endocrinology Update CME courses for the University of Washington. She is a member of the Endocrine Self Assessment Program workgroup as well as the Lipid Management Guideline task force of the Endocrine Society.
