Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine
Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California

Dr. LoPresti is an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California where he currently serves as the Fellowship Director for the Division of Endocrinology. In addition, he serves as the head of Endocrinology at the LAC-USC Medical Center and a clinic dedicated to thyroid cancer where he oversees a population of more than 1000 patients. He received both his MD and PhD at USC after which he completed his residency and fellowship training at the medical center. Upon finishing his training, he joined the division of Endocrinology as a junior faculty member. Under the tutelage of John Nicoloff, MD, his early research career focused on the regulation of circulating T3 levels in humans. He was the first to quantify the whole body conversion rate of T4 to T3 in humans, the role of alternative pathways of thyroid hormone metabolism in regulating T3 levels in health and fasting as well as describing the inability to produce the low T3 state of illness in untreated HIV positive individuals. More recently, his research has focused on the diagnosis and management of endocrine emergencies in hospitalized patients. Finally, he is studying the role serum thyroglobulin and thyroglobulin antibody measurements in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer.
